Living Our Mission/Vision Statement
August 30, 2017

First Baptist Family and Friends,

Love God.  Love Others.  Serve the World.

During the month of September, we are going to spend our times in worship together thinking about and reflecting on our church vision statement:  Love God. Love Others. Serve the World.  What is love?  How do we love God and others?  What does service to the world look like?  How do we, as a church family, do that well so we accomplish the work of God’s Kingdom in our community?

On September 3rd, we will look at love as it is defined and embodied by God, who is Trinity…that is relational in God’s very nature.  What then does that mean for us who seek to live out and enflesh love in our daily lives at home, at work, and at play?  How does that help us and inform our identity as the Body of Christ?

The following three weeks, we will explore each piece of that vision and allow scripture to speak into how we live it out: Love God.  Love Others.  Serve the World.  We will enter into Deuteronomy 6, that daily prayer of Israel, to help us think about loving God, who is Himself love.  Then, we will encounter the parable of the Good Samaritan as we think about loving others.  Finally, we will take the parable of the mustard seed and allow it to speak to serving the world.

This simple vision the church has chosen to engage is a great gift of focus and unity.  I invite you to enter into worship and the experience of God’s word, being inspired and united together with vision and focus, discerning God’s direction for First Baptist in the weeks and months to come.  I am excited to enter into this process of discovery together.  I am encouraged by the amazing desire of FBC Ottawa to minister in the community and see lives transformed in God’s love.  God constantly surprises and astounds me with the gifts and passions of the people in this church.  My prayer is that God would do an amazing work in and through us to make a tangible difference in the community around us.

You will begin to hear this language becoming a regular part of worship, fellowship, and meetings.  Join us as we Love God, Love Others, and Serve the World.

Blessings and Courage,

Pastor Jessica
