Entering Into Ministry with Rev. Jessica Henks
July 26, 2017

First Baptist family and friends,

It is my deep honor to write to you as your new Pastor.  I feel so blessed and privileged to have the opportunity to get to know you, share life with you, care for you, and minister alongside you.  Brian and I want to offer our deepest gratitude to you for extending that call to me and our family.

I am excited to begin this journey with you, and I have been filling my calendar with opportunities to be a part of what you are doing.  After meeting with Angela and the Christian Ed Committee, we have outlined wonderful opportunities this fall for the church and the community to come together in fellowship and discipleship through several new small groups.  The details of those will be revealed in the next few weeks.  I am also hoping to begin a college group this fall and be a part of the ministry happening on the college campus as well.  I am learning the ins and outs of the office and all the things that need to be done.  Many of you have come to visit me, and I think that is wonderful!  I hope more of you will come and share your stories, concerns, hopes, and dreams.  I would love to have an opportunity to meet with everyone as these first few days and weeks unfold.  Please let me know when you would like to visit and we will set up a time and place to get to know one another.  Brian and I are in the midst of buying a home and hope to be moved in by the end of August.  We look forward to hosting you and fellowshipping together in our home as well.

I am encouraged by the ministry and outreach FBC is doing in the Ottawa community, and I am excited to help us develop and grow those ministries to be even more fruitful for God’s Kingdom.  Throughout the process of searching, interviewing, and candidating, I have seen and felt the hand of God bringing us together in this relationship.  I believe God has great fruit to bear out of this season of our lives together.  I look forward to growing with you in this time, as we love God, love others, and serve the world together.   With the apostle Paul, I pray you would “shine like the stars in the universe as you hold out the word of life” (Philippians 2:15-16)

Please bear with me as I learn your names and faces and as I come to know your stories.  In time, I will come to know you all well.  Thank you again for your gracious welcome into this relationship and many blessings to you as we journey together.

Blessings & peace,

Pastor Jessica
